Sarasota attracts lots of tourist all year round, and many of them fall in love with our beautiful city. Some make Sarasota their winter domicile or even feel it would be easy to live here all year round. It seems they are not alone 🙂 A new survey by “Livability.com” checked out 2,000 cities nationwide, and of the just three in Florida that made it on the list, Sarasota ranked the highest.

The other Florida entries on the list were Boca Raton, at No. 59, and Miami Beach, at No. 79.

Here is what livability.com likes about Sarasota:

“Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, just south of Tampa Bay, Sarasota includes a string of eight islands that draw thousands of tourists. It’s an appealing destination for tourists, which is why it landed on our list of the Best Spring Break Cities for Families. Locals enjoy year-round access to beautiful beaches, challenging golf courses, a collection of lakes and a thriving downtown. The Sarasota Opera and Florida Studio Theater anchor the city’s arts and culture scene, while craft breweries, restaurants, shops and galleries provide many entertainment options. The annual Sarasota Film Festival and Sarasota Farmers Market draw visitors to the downtown area, while a string of islands provide a tropical-like escape. ”

More than 2,000 cities(with populations between 20,000 and 350,000 were evaluated in this study. Livability.com researchers analyzed more than 40 data points that were then grouped into eight categories: economics, housing, amenities, infrastructure, demographics, social and civic capital, education and healthcare.

Sources included the best public and private data available from organizations like the U.S. Census Bureau, Walk Score, GreatSchools.com and Esri, Livability.com said.
