Wildewood Springs

Wildewood Springs, Bradenton

Wildewood Springs, Bradenton Wildewood Springs is a condominium community in a park-like setting located in West Bradenton. Head inside via entrances are on Cortez and 34th and you’ll discover one of the area’s most beautiful and unusual neighborhoods. Modernist one- and two-story, stucco buildings nestle among pines, oaks, banyan trees, palms and lush shrubbery. The 88-acre property is designated an Audubon bird and wildlife sanctuary. The rectangular, flat top buildings are grouped in clusters around small cul de sacs branching off the main interior roads — Wildewood Springs Boulevard, Spring Lakes Boulevard and Oakview Drive. Many are located on small ponds and a 10-acre lake, providing delightful water views. The rest face attractive greenbelts. Created in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Wildewood Springs was a collaboration between the late Tim Seibert, one of the most prolific practitioners of the modernist Sarasota School of Architecture, and Paul Neal, a retired attorney. Neal and his son Pat, the award-winning developer, created Neal Communities together. Many of the units have open floor plans, and the wooden louvers on the windows were designed to open up and encourage air flow. Built in two phases, the subdivision has a number of condo associations. The earliest, Wildewood Springs I, contains 558 units ranging in size from 900 to 2,300 square feet of living space. Phase II has the same floor plans, but was divided up into smaller associations, some with as few as 54 units. Condos occupy one- or two-story buildings in the form of townhouses and lower and upper garden villas. Exterior stairs provide access to the second floors. A number of the single-story units have walled courtyards in the rear, some as wide as 60 feet and 20 feet deep.  All residents have access to the community tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and heated, large lap pool. There are also nine other swimming pools with a Jacuzzi spa throughout the neighborhood for each association. The community is pet friendly, allowing up to two dogs, so long as they weigh less than 25 pounds. The rental policy discourages institutional investors. Owners must wait two years before they can lease their unit. After that, agreements mandate a minimum of three months, and all prospective tenants must obtain approval by the association. Residents are mostly a mix of snowbirds and year-round retirees, working professionals and some young couples. They all appreciate the central location. Shops, restaurants, movie theaters, post office and a bowling alley are within walking distance on Cortez Road. The Desoto Square Mall to the east and Anna Maria Island with its Gulf beaches to the west are within easy driving distance.
